I’m looking for "her"

I think I’ll need the People Locator Services to search a “friend” in Texas whom I haven’t heard for years since she got married.  The last news I know about her was that she already had a son.  Actually she owes me some money.  Hehehe I don’t plan to collect her debt if ever I find her.  I’m just curious how she’s been and how’s her family.

Explosion in my kitchen

Ayayay!  It’s really true that without proper planning, most probably failure is waiting at the end.

I was cooking dinner earlier with two kinds of dish on my mind: pork adobo and lechon kawali.  Adobo won over and as the pork was on the stewing process, I decided I’ll switch to lechon kawali.  I took the pork pieces and drained them, and placed them on a hot cooking oil and KABOOM! It was like I was transported to Iraq!  The pork pieces were exploding!

My sleeping girl was awakened by the loud noises coming from the fried pork.  I could already hear her crying and coming to my direction fast. Oh no!  The kitchen was too dangerous for her.  I covered the pan quickly and turned off the stove.  That’s it.  I ended the frying coz oily moisture dripping from the cover was going to the stove top and it was creating smoke.  I’ll investigate how to avoid the pork fat from exploding, so next time I can do it right.  My daughter was amused at the booming sound. Hehehe Good thing it didn’t scare her.

When potatoes are aplenty

I make them into lumpia! Lots of ‘em!

M bought two kilos of potatoes last week.  It drove me crazy thinking what to do with them.  I’ve already made lumpia last week, dump some into my chicken soup, baked some and yet there’s still plenty!  Well, with only 2 and a half humans at home you can’t expect us to consume it all.  So last night, I made another batch of lumpia, fried some for dinner and kept the rest in the freezer.  It will come handy when I don’t have anything to eat.

Shooting in Finland

Last Tuesday morning, I turned off the TV to watch Larry King but the program was interrupted with a breaking news.  It immediately caught my attention coz it was about Finland.  I spent part of my summer vacation there with the family, so the place holds special memories for me.

There was apparently a shooting in a college in a small town of Kauhajoki.  The suspect who was a student at the school, walked inside the classroom where he was to take exams and opened fire on his classmates and teacher.  He also set-off some homemade bombs which burned parts of the school and also some dead bodies.

It was really a surprise to see such tragic thing happen to a country that I perceived as a very peaceful place.  Last year, a similar incident also happened in Jokela highschool.  It only goes to show that there’s not a safe place in this world.

"Disabled" eyeglasses

While watching Charice’s life story over the internet, I got too emotional and wasn’t able to stop myself from crying.  I took off my glasses and got so engrossed with the movie.  After sometime, I noticed that the little girl was quiet.  She must be up to something!  When I looked down, she was playing on the floor (beside my chair) with my eyeglasses.  I quickly grabbed it from her hands but it was too late.  One leg was already broken! Huhuhuhu  I don’t know if it can still be fixed.  We might go tomorrow to the optical and have them look at it.   I really feel bad about my carelessness.  My glasses is only 4 months old, it’s got a cute frame and pink color and it has photochromic lenses that turns to dark when exposed to sun.  Yeah I paid quite an amount for it, now its broken. Huhuhuhu!!!!!!  My eyes and heart are hurting. =(

What should you drive?

I’m glad we’ll have our car back! The latest will be tomorrow or if we’re not that lucky, on Friday it will be ready to be picked up.  That means we can ride around or out of the city on the weekend!  Actually I was planning to do some shopping for the house and I don’t like to commute carrying heavy shopping bags from the stores.  Of course, I don’t like going out when it’s cold.

I bet I’m not the only one who doesn’t like taking public transport when going shopping.  I know at least two persons who are like me.  And I wouldn’t be surprised if one of them gets a new vehicle of her own so she can drive anywhere she wants to, even mountains!  A New GMC vehicle would be a great buddy to take along on such sloping and rugged terrain.  (more…)

Wise spending

These days one has to be practical in spending or else money will only be wasted.  I notice a lot of people are practicing frugality lately.  It must be the rising costs of commodities and services that are driving them to think of ways on how to save money.

 Instead of buying new clothes in boutiques, wise shoppers hunt for good bargains at second hand stores.  No wonder these “ukay-ukay” shops are sprouting everywhere in any developing cities. Even here in Europe, second stores are common and people don’t give a care if you buy from there. There are also car buyers who buy used cars instead of new.  With a little repair and make-over, the old car looks like new.  Though it is cheaper to buy used cars, it’s also advisable to thoroughly check the vehicle before buying.  The appearance might look good but who knows if its performance is still good too.

Dance, little girl, dance!

Earlier my daughter went to her grandma with her dad.  According to hubby they all had a fun time there.  The little girl was apparently showing off her dancing skills to her grandma much to the delight of the old woman.  I was expecting something good will happen there so I’m glad that I let hubby bring the camera in case there are precious moments worth capturing.  He was able to record the girl’s happy dance moves.  And I was able to see it once they came back.  The little girl looked like she really had a good time there. 

I’ll be posting the video in her website as soon as hubby resizes the film. 

New season for US TV shows

This autumn brings back many of our favorite US TV shows on the primetime again.  Earlier I noticed several bloggers talking about the Dancing with the Stars which was aired last night.  Hubby also asked me if I knew that Heroes is also back in the TV screen. Weeeeee!!! I sure am missing this show, along with Lost.  Fortunately I had been preoccupied during the season break of these shows, so they were off my mind the whole summer, until tonight!

You might be wondering how we are able to watch these shows when we’re thousands of miles away from US.  That’s because we download it from the internet! Unlike US residents who can watch their favorite shows with their DIRECT TV, we outsiders have to rely on the goodness of those people who diligently uploads the videos in the internet.   You bet hubby’s PC is hard at work, downloading the Heroes videos now as I write this.

By the way, isn’t it nice to watch shows in sharp reception? That’s the quality DISH TV provides to their clients.  Aside from delivering the sharpest HD programming, they also offer more channels than other satellite TV networks.  What do you say US TV users?

It’s Toyota Camry this time!

I sort of got caught browsing on cars since the other day.  So I guess I’ll be sharing again another brand that I chanced upon while browsing, it’s Toyota.  It’s one of the known car brands and has the large market share in the US.  Everybody knows it even if Toyota is a Japanese car with its headquarters located in Toyota, Aichi, Japan.  Just a little trivia, do you know that Scion and Lexus are also part of the Toyota Group?

Who needs a new car?

It’s been three weeks since our car has been acting badly.  The brake isn’t working very well. Everytime hubby brakes the car, it makes an awful squeezing sound.  As much as he wanted to send it to repair service last week, he can not coz he was waiting for his dad to arrive coz he was going to pick him up in the airport. 

So to the start this week, he finally sent the car to the repair shop.  Hopefully it will be fixed soon coz it’s not convenient at all not having a private transport.

When times like this happen, it’s easy to entertain thoughts of purchasing a new car.  But hubby has a lot of faith in our car.  Its his favorite brand and per experience, it really functions well and has underwent one major repair once in its 10 years of usage.

But anyway, it wouldn’t hurt to browse on some cars at the Car Connection which was what I did.  A newly released 2010 Hyundai Genesis is the current rave of reviews over there.  I’m not an expert on cars and I don’t know how to choose one but it seems that this new car model from hyundai sounds great.   I wonder what hubby has to say about it.

I’m glad I’m not living in China!

I bet you’ve heard about the dead and sick babies in China, all because of the formula milk that contains a deadly chemical. Grrrrrrrr!  They don’t have a Food and Drug Bureau which checks the ingredients of their consumables? My girl has trusted her own instinct and has been refusing formula since July all of the sudden.  We tried to force her to drink from bottle but she would cry and cry.  So now she’s solely feeding on mom’s breastmilk.  =) Am I glad?

Let’s groove tonight!

Last night the radio we were listening to was playing disco music.  The little girl was dancing to the beat!  Even when she was sitting down, flipping the pages of a shopping magazine, she was swaying her body and moving it up and down.  It was hilarious!  Good thing hubby was quick enough to get the cam and record the dancing moment. 

That’s our girl.  Whenever she hears music, she would either dance to it or sing along. Makes me wonder what she will be when she grows up.  By the way, she can kick the ball too, so she can also be a soccer player like her dad. =)
