Cheap Czech Lessons

May 3, 2011

One of my plans for this year was to learn Czech language.  I was already looking in the internet for schools with good reviews.  Most of the classes are held 3 times a week, running for about 90 mins. and location is usually within the city centre.

Being a mom of two, I found it hard how my ever busy husband and I can make it happen.  The question who will watch the kids while I am away (if hubby is still at work) was bugging us. It was almost impossible.

One night while chatting with a friend, she suggested to try out the Czech lessons offered at a nearby library which started a day before she told me about it.

It was the perfect answer to my problem.  First, the library was very close to our home, probably about 500 meters. I don’t have to spend long traveling time.  Second, there was no registration required.  I can attend anytime I want, and pay as I attend for a very minimal fee of 50 czk (for 90 mins.).  Third, each meeting tackles a different topic, so if I miss the other classes, I can still catch up with the other lessons.  You see, it was heavent-sent.

I started attending and I liked it. Sometimes the topics are helpful, other times, they’re less useful but still I am glad I don’t need to spend long travel time and pay big amount of   money to be able to learn Czech.

The schedule in Praha 11, where I go to is every Thursday and Saturday mornings; best times as hubby can report to work later during weekdays.

I recommend you try the Czech Open Language Course that CIC (Centre for Integration of Foreigners) is offering.  Aside from Praha 11, they also have classes at Praha 1, 3 and 5 and different cities around Czech Republic such as Kladno, Kolin, Kutna Hora and Mlada Boleslav. In these small cities, participants pay nothing or only 20 czk for 90 minutes. Not bad at all!

Side effects of drugs are dangerous

April 20, 2011

I have known of a man who, when he was yet young, had a cleft upper lip. However, this now looks very much better, as this was already subjected to a medical operation when he was twelve years old. I thought cases like these are results of accidents only, but  I have now known that this could be a case of a defect which is a side effect of a drug, Topamax, which is an anticonvulsant used to prevent seizures.

O’Hanlon, McCollom & Demerath – Personal Injury Lawyers – 808 West Avenue, Austin, TX. 78701 – 512-494-9949 who handle Topamax lawsuit,  have legal expertise to handle cases wherein the victim will pursue in court a product liability claim. They will give their clients satisfaction for their money, what with their training, and being well-equipped to handle such specialized cases.

It’s Christmas time…

December 26, 2010

It’s Christmas time, and I’m here in a far-away country, but our family - my loving hubby and two children - are with me, and as long as we are together, it’s enough to compensate for all what I’d miss when I’d be back home.

What then am I missing at this time of the year? Foremost of course is the bonding of the family, with all my siblings being present, together with our beloved parents. Then there’s the camaraderie of my friends, their jokes and sob stories, their songs and dances. But I would say, not the least, but could even be par with the highest priority, is the food, the usual ones served during Noche Buena like Arroz ala Valenciana, Embutido, Lumpia, Fruit Salad, Chicken Salad, and the native kakanins like suman-latik, ibos, puto kunchinta, etc. etc.. too many to mention!  Then there’s the Simbang gabi, the carollings, the fireworks… Hayyy. I’ll just imagine I’m home. :)

Anyway, may all of us have a joyous and meaningful Christmas!

Oooppsss! Here I am!

October 30, 2010

Ahoj! I’m back after quite a time, what with the vacation mentality I got after a holiday break I had with the family back in PH. I didn’t realize, even here in my blog, I was still vacationing! Shhhh… I have to tell you also that I really had to adjust being a mom to two small youngsters, who were at that time, a seven-month-old and a three-year old. And so I allowed this blog to “hibernate”.

Hopefully, I’m now bouncing back for good. However, when I’d be missing I seek your understanding. The children are now more demanding of my time, and more active, I should be more alert in watching them too, that they might be safe at all times, and protected against untoward incidents.  Simbako!

Investing in gold

October 22, 2010

With the uncertainty that employment brings, it is advisable to invest hard-earned money where it will grow.  Most people buy properties being the famous among investments; others put their money in stocks, while there are others who buy gold bars, jewelries or coins.

Among the three, gold is the easiest to invest in coz it needs little money.  There are many OFW’s (Overseas Filipino Workers) wives who spend their money buying gold jewelry, not only for their beauty but also because of these pretty accessories rise in value as time passes by.

If you check out the United States Gold Bureau website, you will surely be encouraged to invest in gold.  There’s no better time to start investing (especially in gold) than NOW!

Lamps of all sorts

October 21, 2010

Table lamps, desk lamps, floor lamps… I wonder which kind of lamp I should rub for a genie to appear before me.  I’ve got several wishes to make, not only three and my first wish is that a genie would grant my wish.haha

I was just overwhelmed with the lamps I saw this morning while browsing the net; colorful, modern, stylish… can I have them all?  There’s even a cute night light in a shell design. Lamps are great accessories for the room to create an ambience.  It can brighten up a room, it can set a romantic mood, it can even make set you into a dancing mood too (yeah those bright, sparkling dancing lights!).  If you want to change the feel of your room, especially at night, get a new lamp!

Home accessories: blinds

October 19, 2010

Have you always been a curtain user? Have a look at these two images, and maybe you’d consider using blinds in your home after seeing them:

Here’s the first one, a 1 inch wood blind (Bali Northern Heights) that comes with natural beauty and energy efficiency. The 1 inch slat size blinds are more traditional and offers design flexibility.  They’re also available with many selection of beautiful stains, paint and decorative choices.

The second one is the Bali Vertical Vinyl Acadia New Woodlook alike.  It mades of vinly but looks like real wood!

So what can you say about those blinds?  They’re pretty yeah?

A harmful treatment

October 7, 2010

Teenagers may be not so cautious in just using or taking anything for personal care or beauty, even if this may not be good for their health. For this reason, some are affected by diseases caused by beauty products or derma treatments which are harmful.

In their desire to look their best – thus avoid any blemishes or facial disturbance -  these youngsters, without their knowledge, may already be suffering injuiries caused by accutane which is a form of vitamin A used  for the treatment of severe acne. Thank God, more parents now are aware that health should not be compromised, and they fight for tbeir right. For them, the services of O’Hanlon, McCollum & Demerath may be hired for an Accutane lawsuit. They provide free consultation.

Fare hikes?

October 6, 2010

The subject of MRT and LRT fare hikes is in the news these days. Most of the commuters are of course opposed to this, and it is understandable: It adds to the parents’ woes as this will be extra expense for the children who are sent to school; for the market vendors, this will make goods more expensive as it will add to the cost of transporting or the freight and handling; for businessmen, this will be additional overhead expense; and so more and more reasons come up. However on the other hand, if we take the side of government, which has also it’s reason for initiating such hike, one of which is to provide better service to the commuters, another is to improve the equipments or to push through other needed improvements, should we not consider them?

On children and veggies

October 4, 2010

Children are usually very choosy with regards to food, and parents, especially mommies find a hard time letting them eat, especially vegetables. It depends of course on many other factors, but one effective way is to try to entice them by rewarding them with something that interests them. It could be a visit to the zoo, or a treat at a favorite fastfood chain, or just a burger, or whatever a particular child likes. Mommies, it’s really a challenge to your imagination… or to your power of persuasion.

Investing for your child’s future

October 2, 2010

I have known of many parents, at least those who can afford, who even while their children are still young, put in some kind of investment for them. The idea of investing in gold coin or gold bullion could be entertained, as gold is an ideal investment. It surely appreciates with time, and it preserves one’s wealth and purchasing power. People are attracted by it for its beauty and magic. Another investment opportunity is silver or platinum, which metals are also handled by the United States Gold Bureau. Investing in precious metals is a safe and better way to invest, especially as they are handled by the competent and dedicated professionals of the bureau.

On Charice Pempengco

September 30, 2010

There are so many articles, posts, comments or what-nots on the shining star that is Charice, but mine is just a short tribute to this unassuming girl who has gone a long way since she was a winner (second place) in a national singing contest titled Little Big Star. She has been dubbed by the popular Oprah Winfrey “the most talented girl in the world.” She is a pride to the Philippines, and a model child to other children on the way she has struggled to help her family. She is surely a pride and a jewel to her mother.

The chain of circumstances leading to her discovery in the YouTube could be a proof of God’s guiding hand in her life. Her recent landing in the realm of America’s entertainment world, especially in her recent participation in Glee, a 20th Century FOX musical sitcom at the Paramount Studios in Hollywood, has catapulted her to a higher level in her singing career. Whatever the villain people say of her, I still commend her and be on her side, let’s give this blessed girl a chance to reach the peak of her destiny. Godspeed, Charice!

The Sound of Music cast in Oprah show

September 29, 2010

I have not been born yet that time when this movie was shown, but as through the years this has been loved by the public, I was able to watch it just the same. Many are thrilled to know that the entire cast of this very popular 1965 Academy Award-winning movie musical “The Sound of Music” will guest the “The Oprah Winfrey Show” on Friday, Oct. 29 (though Julie Andrews will not sing there). It brings to memory the hills resounding the classic songs of “My Favorite Things” and “Do Re Mi”, and the singing Maria, the governess, played by Julie Andrews. If you have not been familiar with the story of the musical, you better click this site for an idea: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0059742/synopsis.

Real estate or gold?

Real estate is one asset which appreciates in value as time passes, but its disadvantage is that it cannot be disposed of right away, or it cannot be easily turned into cash. Gold always appreciates in value, it never depreciates, and aside from that, it can be stored in convenient size and shape. It secures the purchasing power of a person,, and preserves his wealth. Versatile gold indeed! It is available also in coins or gold bullion; one can just choose which one he likes to invest in. So why don’t you buy gold? Or a choice could be another precious metal, like silver or platinum. All of these are handled expertly by the United States Gold Bureau.

Calamities all over the world

Earthquakes, typhoons, flooding and landslides – even forest fires! -  in recent years have killed many people, sometimes families, leaving tens of thousands homeless and causing billions of dollars in damage.

In the Philippines, we can recall the eruption of Mt. Pinatubo, which volcano had been in slumber for 500 years, until 1991, when it erupted as “the second largest volcanic eruption of this century and by far the largest eruption to affect a densely populated area”.

In Japan and China, and even in Indonesia, the earthquakes and tsunamis were very devastating. And now, a recent calamity is the one in a Mexico landslide with dead and missing people.

Are these the signs of the times? Could be. They have to come anyway, but our hope there is, as children of God, we are assured of His protection; we should not fear.

Terrorist attacks in Europe?

There could have been, had it not been foiled. “Militants based in Pakistan had been planning simultaneous strikes in London and major cities in France and Germany, Britain’s Sky News television reported, citing intelligence sources.”

Intelligence-sharing between London, France, Germany and the US, and their cooperation had led to the plot being uncovered and severely disrupted.

“The report of the foiled plot came on the same day the Eiffel Tower in Paris was evacuated following the second bomb threat at the landmark in a month and amid official warnings in France of an imminent terrorist attack.” – so the report says.

A status symbol?

September 28, 2010

Men use many of what they wear as a status symbol, like designer shirts, pants, bags, portfolio, to mention a few. It could also be their shoes or belt, or a mansion or a fully-loaded car. Or it could be a watch like the Ulysse Nardin Macho Palladium. This watch is 50-meter water resistant, has an exhibition case back, and itself is a certified chronometer. It has a 43×40.5mm case, blue dial, and a palladium bracelet with deployant buckle. Additional features are an automatic movement with date, sub seconds, and power reserve indication at 12pm. Would you not like to be gifted with one? Ahhh for men only. Are they not thinking of having a female counterpart?
